Announcing our next REbeL Workshop!
November 7, 2016 @ 6:30 pm - 8:00 pm
Have you ever felt ashamed of your body or afraid of being fat?
This is due to what is called weight stigma, which impacts us all.
Weight stigma is a huge issue in our culture and contributes to low self-esteem, depression, bullying, anxiety, poor body image, eating disorders, and suicidality. Weight stigma affects all people regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic status. Three basic assumptions underlie weight stigma: thin is always preferable, thin is always possible, and thin people are better people.
It is important to understand weight stigma, why it occurs, and how we can begin to re-teach ourselves and others to not judge our own bodies and the bodies of those around us based on weight and size.
Join REbeL and featured speaker, Tanja Haaland, Program Director at the Eating Disorder Center of Kansas City, and learn more about weight stigma and how to learn to celebrate ALL bodies!
