Our trained middle and high school REbeL members visit elementary school classrooms or groups to read a children’s book that aligns with our core message focused on promoting a positive body image and healthy living. Following the reading, REbeL members lead a discussion and a fun, hands-on activity related to the book’s theme. In addition to the books below, we have a library of books from which you may choose. Please fill out the form below to receive more information about this complimentary activity and to see our full list of available books.
Trained high school REbeL members are also available to deliver complementary presentations to small or large groups of fellow high school students and middle school-aged students. REbeL has one main presentation, called The Baggage Presentation, but we can also customize a presentation to fit your specific needs.
The Baggage Presentation touches on the “baggage” that we carry around with us – the worries that stem from from society’s overwhelming focus on appearance and the pressures we feel to measure up to our culture’s standard of beauty. In this thought-provoking, interactive presentation, REbeL students display and discuss sources of this “baggage” and present ways that we can begin to set these bags down, to form a healthier relationship with food and exercise, and to love our bodies just the way they are. REbeLs educate the audience about the realities of dieting and advertising, and about the importance of being critical viewers of media messages about food and appearance. Audience members will leave the presentation with a greater appreciation for their bodies and with tools to “rebel” against cultural norms.
